This one of a kind bowl was wheel thrown out of a warm brown stoneware clay, and then handcarved using the sgrafitto method.  The design is reminiscent of cherry blossoms, which are one of Michigan's most important (and beautiful) products. 
The outside is unglazed, and the inside has a simple shiny white glaze to accenuate the swirly throwing line.
